IG Video Download | Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the IG Video Download Chrome extension accesses, how it uses that information, and where information is stored when you use its download features.
Last updated: October 7, 2026Information the extension uses
When you use a download control on Instagram, the extension processes information needed to locate and save the media you selected. This can include the post or Reel identifier, media URLs, the account name shown with the media, and request details from Instagram needed for profile batch downloads.
For profile batch downloads, the extension reads Instagram request headers from Instagram network requests and reads the Instagram CSRF cookie for the tab where you are signed in. It uses these details to make authenticated requests to Instagram using your existing session. The extension does not ask you to enter or share your Instagram password.
How information is used
- To show download controls on supported Instagram posts, Reels, and Stories.
- To request media information from Instagram after you select a download feature.
- To download the selected media through Chrome and organize it using your chosen folder settings.
- To remember your preferences, such as the download folder, button visibility, and subfolder format.
The extension does not use this information for advertising, profiling, analytics, or purposes unrelated to its download features.
Storage and sharing
Your download preferences are saved using Chrome's storage.sync facility. If Chrome Sync is enabled for extensions in your browser, Chrome may synchronize these preferences through your Google account according to your Chrome settings.
Temporary Instagram request metadata used for a profile batch download is kept in Chrome's session storage and is removed when its tab closes or the browser session ends. The extension also saves a local installation timestamp. Downloaded media is saved by Chrome to the folder you selected.
When a feature needs Instagram data, the request is sent to Instagram using your signed-in browser session. Media is downloaded from the media address supplied by Instagram. The extension does not send your Instagram credentials, request metadata, preferences, or downloaded media to the extension developer or an advertising or analytics service.
The popup may include links to third-party social services. If you choose one, that service will receive information according to its own privacy policy. The extension does not send your extension data along with those links.
Your choices
You can stop using the extension at any time by disabling or removing it in Chrome. You can clear saved preferences through Chrome's extension storage controls or reset them by changing the settings in the popup. You can manage whether Chrome synchronizes extension data in Chrome Sync settings. Removing the extension also removes its browser storage according to Chrome's extension storage behavior.
Security and data retention
Authentication details are used only to fulfill the download action you request. The temporary request metadata described above is kept in browser-managed session storage for the active tab; the extension does not create a separate server-side copy. Chrome and Instagram handle their respective browser and account data under their own terms and privacy policies.
Children's privacy
IG Video Download is a general-purpose browser extension and is not designed specifically for children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the extension's features or data practices change. The latest version and its effective date will be published with the extension listing.
Use of information accessed through Chrome permissions is limited to providing the extension's user-facing download features. It is not sold, used for advertising, or transferred for unrelated purposes. Access is limited to what is needed to carry out the download action you choose.
